N+1 – Algorithmen in Form / Becher und Schalen / weiß

DE__Die Formulierung »N+1« beschreibt mathematisch den Nachfolger einer bestimmten Zahl n. In diesem Projekt steht sie für die kaum begrenzten formalen Varianten, die sich aus einem einzigen Algorithmus heraus ergeben können. Grundlage für die Gefäßserie N+1 ist ein Algorithmus, in dem bis zu 11 Kreise, die in Größe und Lage definierbar sind, die Form der Gefäße konstituieren. Hinzu kommt die Bestimmung der Ausdehnung und Art der Oberflächenstruktur, die in jeder Konfiguration auf andere Art mit der Form und den Flächen interagiert. n+1 ist fortlaufende Untersuchung und Werkzeug zugleich, sie erkundet wie vielschichtig ein parametrisch- generativer Ansatz der digitalen Formerzeugung sein kann und lotet die ästhetischen Eigenheiten aus.

Die Objekte der N+1-Serie werden aus einer speziell angesetzten Mixtur feinster deutscher und französischer Porzellane gefertigt. Im Herstellungsprozess werden die Massen dafür händisch mit keramischen Farbkörpern angereichert und durchgefärbt; so erhalten die Vasen ihre intensive und leuchtenden Farbigkeit. Die kolorierten Massen werden in der Materialkartusche des 3d-Druckers händisch kombiniert und gemischt. So entsteht im Druckprozess jedes Mal ein Einzelstück, da die genaue Farbkombination und der entstehende Verlauf immer variieren.

ENG__In a mathematical context »n+1« describes the successor of a certain number n. In that project, n+1 sums up the barely limitable formal variations of a single algorithm. The series of mug-like forms bases on an algorithm that consists of up to 11 circles, every single of them is definable in position and size and they determine the shape of the vessels. In a second step the dimension and the manner of the surface structure is specified and with every new formal configuration the structure interacts differently with the geometric setting of form and faces. n+1 is an ongoing research and tool at the same time, the project explores the possible complexity of a generative and parametric approach.

The objects of the N+1-series are made of a specially prepared mixture of finest German and French porcelains. In the manufacturing process, the masses are enriched by hand with ceramic colours and dyed through; this is how the vases obtain their intense and luminous colourfulness. The coloured masses are combined and mixed by hand in the material cartridge of the 3d printer. As the exact colour combination and the resulting gradient always vary, a unique piece emerges each time in the printing process.
